The Mauritshuis Royal Picture Gallery is a museum in The Hague, Netherlands, renowned for housing several masterpieces by Rembrandt, such as The Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Nicolaes Tulp, and three of the very few existing paintings by Johannes Vermeer, including the world-famous Girl with a Pearl Earring and View of Delft. As one of the most famous and popular museums in the Netherlands, it is a prominent institution that regularly collaborates with leading museums in other countries to maintain its high standard of quality.

The Building

Located on the banks of the Hofvijver pond near the Binnenhof, the Dutch parliament, the building itself has a rich history. It was originally constructed in 1640 as a residence for Count Johan Maurits of Nassau following his tenure as governor of Dutch Brazil. Designed by architects Jacob van Campen and Pieter Post, the residence was converted into a museum in 1822 to house the Royal Cabinet of Paintings.

From State Museum to Private Foundation

The Mauritshuis operated as a state-run museum for over 170 years until it was privatized in 1995. At that time, a new foundation was established to take over management of both the building and the collection. The collection itself was given to the foundation on a long-term loan, while the building, which remains state property, is rented by the museum.

Renovation and International Tour

The museum was closed to the public between 2012 and 2014 to undergo a major renovation and expansion, officially reopening on June 27, 2014. During this closure, a selection of its works was exhibited in another museum in The Hague, while many of its most famous masterpieces toured internationally to several countries, a strategy intended to help raise funds for the project.
https://homage-art-to-be.com/es/categoria-producto/museum/netherlands/mauritshuis-de-la-haya-netherlands/
["GET
